#[linkfarm] Oz bank meltdown due to file corruption cock-up - It's reported that staff attempted a mainframe upgrade on Wednesday 25 November, and this failed to complete. It was reversed and this was when, it appears, ongoing payment processing data in a file was corrupted. It caused payments to stop or to be recorded incorrectly, with some customer accounts having multiple incorrect debits applied. Money transfers to other banks as well as the NAB's own customers were affected.

* Jonathan said I worked on Clydesdale's internet banking once. They had a problem customers being able to access someone else's credit card. Turned out it was the bank's fault, not mine. #[linkfarm] Scientists Confirm Existence of 'Kirby Kracle' - This imbalance of matter and antimatter has created confusion in the scientific community, where the conventional wisdom is that the Big Bang would have created matter and antimatter in equal amounts. Obviously, what scientists have yet to discover (because they are a load of n00bz) is that when the Third World died and in its wake were born the two opposing planets, New Genesis and Apokalips, a number of Apokaliptian New Gods -- most notably Orion and Big Barda -- abandoned the evil lord Darkseid and his pursuit of the Anti-Life Equation in favor of a Source-reverent life on New Genesis, which would easily account for the imbalance in matter and antimatter in the Universe.

#[linkfarm] For Cats, a Big Gulp With a Touch of the Tongue - It has taken four highly qualified engineers and a bunch of integral equations to figure it out, but we now know how cats drink. The answer is: very elegantly, and not at all the way you might suppose ... The project required no financing. The robot that mimicked the cat’s tongue was built for an experiment on the International Space Station, and the engineers simply borrowed it from a neighboring lab.
