# It's been a while (about 15 years actually) since I've done any kind of regular diary. I've kept journals/log books/notes for work and things, but they don't really count. Keeping a log book is a utilitarian thing to do - stops you forgetting what you've done, why you did things, and what not. I do add marginalia - why so and so is a liability/things would be better if ... but it's for my own consumption. Not like a diary.
A diary, even a secret one, is meant to be read, or rather is written as if it will be read, by someone else. Consequently, writing a diary is a more considered thing, you write more then you would if it was only for yourself, you explain things better and you think more.
That's my theory anyway.
G2 [e] said and you get out any inner anger and page ripping temper !! well I do anyway, then its back to smile and move on, I warn anybody from reading my diary because I love all my family but by god from time to time I could wring their necks

Tinker [e] said I totally agree with keeping a diary, it gives us the ability to say exactly how we feel without the prospect of someone getting hurt in the process, also having said that, it gives us the ability to face our darkest fears about ourselves, it helps with the healing process.
