#"Once you have an XPath engine, implementing XSLT is easy."

I'm sure that quote is attributed to Dan Veillard.

You can see where this is going, can't you.

Damn.

Easy, but time consuming I bet

I'd say straightforward, rather than easy. I think it'll work pretty much as you expect - compile the stylesheet to a tree of things-that-do-stuff, stuff the context node in at the top, and everything just drops out. Time consuming - well, unfortunately, I have plenty of time at the moment :)

Once you have an XSLT engine, implementing XQuery is easy

Hmm, not sure I agree with that. There are rather more dominos to need to be lined up for XQuery.

Sorry, that was my lame attempt at farce. Because it's a farce to say that implementing XSLT is easy unless you're a genius such as yourself.

Pah. I'm just making it up as I go along and, so long as I pay attention when I read the specs, I'll get it to work in the end. It's only software, after all :)
