Arabica

Another minor bug fix. Arabica now builds cleanly using gcc 3.3 on Darwin (and so presumably OS X). Arabica was triggering some kind of preprocessor problem - I think there were multiple definitions of assert that it couldn't sort out - but gcc 3.3 is the out of the box compiler for Darwin, so I fixed it.
